Artificial intelligence is no longer a futuristic fantasy; it’s rapidly becoming a part of our everyday lives, including the healthcare sector. But as with any technological advance in healthcare its integration comes with its own set of challenges and considerations.Speaking at an NHS conference on AI in February organised by the Royal College of Radiologists, Nell Thornton, an improvement fellow at the Health Foundation, presented data from a survey, published in July 2024,1 that asked more than 8000 members of the public and 1200 NHS staff members how they perceive AI in healthcare.The response was broadly receptive: a small majority of the public (54%) and an even greater proportion of staff (76%) supported the use of AI for patient care.
