Triamcinolone acetonide an option in those with uveitic macular edema, IOP issues

In a Healio video perspective from the ASRS meeting, Dr. Danny Mammo discusses the impact of triamcinolone acetonide on intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with uveitic macular edema. A retrospective review of 60 eyes showed that 70% of patients with a history of glaucoma or steroid response did not have a rise in IOP after one suprachoroidal injection of triamcinolone acetonide. This suggests that suprachoroidal steroid injection may be a safer alternative for high-risk patients with IOP issues and uveitic macular edema, although not completely safe. The study was presented at the ASRS annual meeting in 2024.
