A study published in JAMA Network Open found that children and young adults who underwent tonsillectomy or adenoidectomy had a higher risk for stress-related disorders later in life. The study, conducted in Sweden, included over 1 million individuals and found that those who had the surgeries were more likely to develop stress-related disorders, including PTSD. The findings were consistent across different cohorts, suggesting a potential association between the surgeries and the development of psychiatric disorders. Further research is needed to understand the mechanisms behind this association.
