NEW ORLEANS — In this video, Shari M. Erickson, MPH, chief advocacy officer at ACP, highlights several health policy developments she presented at ACP Internal Medicine Meeting “that are really important for physicians to be aware of.”
Erikson said the association is “working hard to try and ensure” that physicians can access information on topics like immunization, and that in January, the CDC and other federal agencies removed thousands of web pages on sexually transmitted infections, HIV and references related to gender ideology.
Erickson noted that many of these sites “did start to come back up, but there are a number that are still down, particularly related to issues around gender-affirming care [and] climate change.”
She also highlighted an executive order made on Jan. 20 that would enhance the vetting process of foreign nationals from countries across the globe.
The order did not impose a travel ban but indicated that one might be issued within 60 days of the signing, “and we’re at that point now,” Erickson said.
“We are significantly concerned whenever the next executive order comes out with regard to these countries and potentially banning travel to the U.S. from those countries and how that might impact international medical graduates,” she said.
