Nearly half of women’s aid organisations working in crisis areas are at risk of closure, UN survey finds

A survey of women’s aid organisations across 44 countries has found that 47% of those that provide crucial services in crisis contexts, including sexual and reproductive health services, expect to shut down within six months if current funding levels persist.

The rapid global survey was conducted by UN Women in March 2025.1 It surveyed 411 women led and women’s rights non-governmental organisations in crisis contexts such as Iraq, Myanmar, Syria, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Yemen.

It found that 90% of the surveyed organisations have been hit by funding cuts as foreign aid donors reign in budgets, even though demand for these organisations’ services continues to grow in the face of ongoing wars and conflicts and the climate …
