Millipore Sigma, one of the largest suppliers of medical research products, will start adding a temporary tariff surcharge to all product orders shipped to the United States.

The company, which sells a wide array of items from chemical reagents to centrifuges and syringe filters, explained in a letter to customers that the new tariffs imposed by the Trump administration are “impacting our operations,” which include production and procurement costs. And the surcharge, which will take effect Monday, will appear as a separate line item on quotes and invoices.

The surcharge is in lieu of a tariff pass-through and is designed to protect customers from “experiencing the full impact of the broad tariff rates, some of which are very high. By leveraging a surcharge, we retain flexibility to adjust or remove the surcharge if the situation changes in the coming weeks or months,” Millipore executives wrote to customers.
