GPs strike deal to remove “postcode lottery” from local funding

General practice leaders in Lancashire and South Cumbria have secured an additional £14m to level up local enhanced services (LES) funding across their patch after some practices indicated that they may stop carrying out unfunded work that other practices are paid for.Lancashire and South Cumbria integrated care board (ICB) has agreed to provide extra funding following 22 months of negotiations with the consortium of local medical committees (LMCs) in Lancashire and Cumbria. The £14m will fund services including expanded medicines optimisation, a new service for treating long term conditions, and other services that fall outside of the core GP contract.As a result of the deal the LMC consortium said all practices in the ICB area would now receive £26.46 per patient to provide enhanced services.
