One innovative way of addressing funding cuts is the Altitude Lab accelerator, launched by Recursion to support some of the estimated 1,500 health-related startups jeopardized by funding cuts to Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grants. SBIR grants are a critical funding source of biotech innovation and pave the way for the development of life-changing medications. Prior to the cuts, more than $4 billion in SBIR grants were awarded to early stage companies each year.
Panelists for the webinar include Morgan Cheatham, head of healthcare and life sciences at Breyer Capital, and Gurdane Bhutani, managing partner with MBX Capital. Benjamin Kromnick, who heads up healthcare and life sciences at Mercury, will be the moderator. They will share their experiences and discuss the big picture of how the NIH funding cuts are impacting the life science landscape. They’ll also take questions from attendees!
