MPs have called for a public information campaign to warn people of the risks from gambling including suicides, alongside tougher rules on gambling advertising, promotion, and sponsorship.The Health and Social Care Committee said the government should review the Gambling Act so that the law supports a “total system response” to gambling related harms.In a letter to the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) on 8 May the committee cited the serious financial, physical, and mental harms gambling can cause, including an estimated 117 to 496 gambling related suicides every year in England.1The committee met with experts and campaigners to discuss the matter, including the charity Gambling with Lives, which was founded by bereaved families.
