SEVILLE, Spain — In this Healio Video Perspective from the Congress on Controversies in Ophthalmology, Lloyd Clark, MD, discusses sustained drug delivery implants as a treatment option for retinal diseases.
During a session, Clark and Dan Martin, MD, debated the utility of these delivery implants in clinical practice.
Martin focused on the advantages of sustained delivery and its potential to become mainstream in the future. Clark said that sustained delivery implants have shown limitations and may not be ready for clinical care.
“Long-acting implants really give us an uncertain dosing regimen and an uncertain clinical effect without significant clinical experience,” Clark said. “There is a lot to be learned before these devices make it into clinical practice.”
