St. Patrick’s Mental Health Services has successfully implemented 100 cycles of its dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) program, which helps individuals with histories of suicidal behavior, self-harm, or intense emotions. The program focuses on teaching coping skills to manage emotions and improve overall well-being. Over 14,000 individuals have attended the program in the past 16 years. DBT aims to reduce life-threatening behaviors and enhance positive coping strategies, ultimately helping participants build fulfilling lives. Research has shown that DBT leads to reductions in self-harming behaviors, improvements in distress tolerance, and enhanced emotion regulation. Participants have reported transformative experiences and increased connection to themselves after attending the program.
