The Lingering Fatigue of COVID-19

1 Min Read

A study conducted in Denmark found that individuals who tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 experienced a 3% increase in self-reported fatigue and a twofold increase in malaise after minimal exertion up to 18 months after infection. Hospitalized patients had a 23% increase in fatigue scores. Test-positive participants had higher odds of experiencing malaise and severe fatigue compared to those who tested negative. The findings suggest that patients with more severe cases of COVID-19 may benefit from clinical follow-up for fatigue. This study was published in JAMA Network Open and was led by Elisabeth O’Regan from the Statens Serum Institut in Copenhagen, Denmark.
