A study from örebro University suggests that exposure to PFAS chemicals affects the metabolism of unborn children and may lead to an increased risk of certain diseases later in life, such as cancer and diabetes. These “forever chemicals” are commonly used in everyday products and have been found in the livers of fetuses, causing changes to metabolic functioning. The impact of PFAS is similar to that of metabolic diseases like diabetes and fatty liver. Researchers hope their findings contribute to greater awareness and stricter regulation of PFAS. The study was published in The Lancet Planetary Health and was led by Tuuila Hyötyläinen and Matej Orešič from örebro University, and Paul A. Fowler from the University of Aberdeen.
