New guidelines for imaging estrogen receptor in breast cancer patients using FES PET

admin

The Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) and the European Association of Nuclear Medicine (EANM) have released a new standard/guideline for estrogen receptor imaging in breast cancer patients using FES PET. This standard is designed to help physicians recommend, perform, interpret, and report 18F-FES PET studies for patients with breast cancer. The guideline emphasizes the importance of the ER in breast cancer and outlines the benefits of 18F-FES PET in assessing ER expression and predicting response to therapy. It also includes information on clinical indications, patient selection, imaging procedures, and standardized quality control measures for 18F-FES PET. The publication of these standards is part of the SNMMI/EANM’s effort to advance the science of nuclear medicine and improve patient care.
