58 million people in the United States suffer from mental health challenges, with depression rates at an all-time high. Despite billions of dollars spent on care per year, only 13% of patients report lasting improvement. To improve outcomes, the mental health system needs to prioritize quality of care, rather than just increasing access. Measurement-based care (MBC) involves collecting feedback from patients during therapy sessions to guide individualized treatment plans, and has been shown to help patients recover faster. Value-based care ties the amount providers earn for their services to the results they deliver for their patients, and incentivizes clinicians to adopt MBC. It is also important to create a new standard of treatment and champion the widespread adoption of digital tools to support the transition to high-quality care.
