Histone modifications play a crucial role in decoding biological age, with a recent study exploring their potential in human aging. Researchers developed histone-specific age prediction models using ChIP-seq data from 1,814 human tissue samples, focusing on seven histone marks. These predictors demonstrated robust performance, with H3K4me3 achieving high accuracy. Histone marks showed significant correlation with age, with repressive marks decreasing and activating marks increasing with age. Pathway analysis highlighted key genes associated with age prediction. The study introduced a pan-histone, pan-tissue age predictor, emphasizing shared epigenetic patterns across the genome. Overall, histone mark-based predictors offer valuable insights into epigenetic aging and age estimation models.
