A new scanning method allows experts to monitor lung function in real-time by showing how air moves in and out of the lungs. This method is effective for patients with asthma, COPD, and lung transplant recipients. The scans use a special gas visible on an MRI scanner to assess lung ventilation and response to treatment. The technique has shown promising results in assessing lung function in patients with respiratory diseases and identifying early signs of decline. This research funded by the Medical Research Council and The Rosetrees Trust may potentially revolutionize the clinical management of lung diseases in the future.
