Sophie Casey, a young mother from the U.K., was misdiagnosed with a stomach infection and told she was too young for ovarian cancer. She later found out she had stage 4 ovarian cancer, with a mass pressing against her bowel, causing severe bloating. After receiving chemotherapy, she is waiting to see the extent of her prognosis. Casey is now advocating for awareness of ovarian cancer in young women, urging them to not ignore symptoms such as bloating. She emphasizes the importance of knowing one’s body, seeking medical tests, and not letting doctors dismiss concerns due to age. Symptoms of ovarian cancer include bloating, weight loss, pelvic discomfort, fatigue, back pain, changes in bowel habits, and frequent urination. Casey hopes to change the misconception that young women cannot develop ovarian cancer.
