First-degree family history of mental illness is associated with increased aggression in individuals exposed to repetitive head impact and chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). A study examined data from deceased adult male brain donors and found that 70% had CTE, with a significant link between family history of mental illness and aggression in those with CTE, particularly in the 40-59 age group. The authors suggest using family history to predict and address aggressive behavior in individuals with CTE. Limitations include retrospective reports and a homogeneous donor sample. The study was funded by various organizations and researchers disclosed relevant connections.
