Cutting back on added sugars is beneficial for health, but not all sugars carry the same risks. Research shows that occasional sweet treats may not harm the heart, but excessive sugar consumption can increase the risk of stroke and aneurysm. A study on the impact of sugar on cardiovascular disease risk found that the source of sugar is important, with sweetened beverages posing the highest risk.
