Maintaining a consistent sleep schedule is just as important for health as getting enough sleep, according to a recent study. Irregular bedtimes can raise the risk of cardiovascular events, even for individuals who get the recommended amount of sleep. Researchers found that those with irregular sleep patterns had a 26% higher risk of experiencing a major cardiovascular event compared to those with regular sleep patterns. This risk was even higher among those with moderately irregular sleep patterns. The study also found that irregular sleepers were less likely to meet the recommended sleep duration compared to regular sleepers. This research suggests that sleep regularity should be a focus in public health guidelines and clinical practice.
