Dr Bartholomew Mosse founded the first iteration of the Rotunda Hospital over 200 years ago in Dublin City to improve healthcare for expectant mothers. The hospital opened on March 15, 1745, delivering its first baby on March 20, 1745, operating from a three-story house on South Great George’s street until 1757. The Lord Mayor of Dublin James Geoghegan highlighted the challenging conditions for infants in the 1740s during a plaque unveiling ceremony. The hospital’s establishment marked a significant step forward in providing better healthcare services for pregnant women in Dublin and has continued to serve the community for centuries.
