Experts in emergency medicine are warning that climate change will have a severe impact on emergency services worldwide. A survey involving 42 focus groups from 36 countries found that the average rating for the severity of climate change’s impact on health systems and emergency care was 7 out of 9. Most countries have not assessed the impact or made plans to address it. Major concerns include pollution, flooding, and heat waves, with high-income countries focused on heat waves and wildfires. The European Society of Emergency Medicine is calling for increased awareness and action to mitigate the effects of climate change on emergency services.
