Cancer Research UK has called for a long-term strategy to tackle delays in cancer treatment in England, where over 301,000 people are projected to begin treatment later than they should over the next five years. The charity warns that urgent suspected cancer referrals are expected to reach 17.2 million in the next five years, with only 65.9% of patients currently being treated within the targeted time frame. In other news, the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency has approved fruquintinib for treating metastatic colorectal cancer, and NICE has approved quizartinib as a new targeted treatment for a specific form of acute myeloid leukaemia.
