Neuralink, Elon Musk’s brain-computer interface implant startup, has received FDA breakthrough device designation for Blindsight, a device that aims to restore vision in blind individuals by implanting a microelectrode array in the visual cortex. The device activates neurons to provide visual images, enabling even the blind from birth to see. This technology is part of Neuralink’s goal to create a generalized input/output platform interfacing with the human brain. They are also conducting a clinical trial for quadriplegic individuals to use devices via thoughts. Similarly, Neurable and Healthspan Digital plan to offer neurotechnology for assessing cognitive performance and brain health in health and longevity clinics worldwide.
