The General Medical Council has issued new guidance on how it handles concerns related to doctors’ actions during protests, stressing that doctors must follow the law and uphold the trust of patients and the public. The guidance comes in response to pressure from doctors for clarity on the issue. The UK Health Alliance on Climate Change has urged the GMC to be lenient on doctors facing fitness to practice proceedings for climate activism, citing the case of a GP who was suspended for participating in climate protests. In June, doctors at the BMA’s Annual Representative Meeting passed a resolution on climate change and health.
