Four drugmakers in the U.K. – Novartis, Pfizer, Novo Nordisk, and Otsuka Pharmaceutical – were criticized for violating a voluntary code meant to improve marketing practices. Novo Nordisk was publicly reprimanded for not disclosing around $10 million given to over 150 organizations, including healthcare providers and patient groups, between 2020 and 2022. The company admitted to significant omissions and falling short of disclosure standards. The Prescription Medicines Code of Practice Authority, overseen by the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry, reported that Novo Nordisk breached more than a dozen voluntary codes, leading to reduced confidence in the industry.
