A report from the Commonwealth Fund found that the US has the highest maternal mortality rate among 14 rich industrialised countries. Despite spending more on healthcare than other high-income countries, the US has much worse maternal health outcomes. In 2022, 22 US women died for every 100,000 live births, compared to much lower rates in other countries like Norway, Switzerland, Australia, the UK, Canada, and Korea. The report states that about 80% of these deaths were preventable. Data used in the report came from the US Centers for Disease Control.
