Zipline’s urban drone delivery system, Platform 2, will be used by Mayo Clinic for its hospital-at-home program in Florida and Minnesota. The autonomous drone can carry eight pounds of cargo over 10 miles in 10 minutes. Patients in Mayo Clinic’s Advanced Care at Home program will receive medications and supplies via drone delivery. Zipline has partnerships with various healthcare organizations for similar services. Amazon Pharmacy also offers drone delivery of prescriptions in College Station, Texas. FAA regulations have been a hurdle for drone delivery companies, but Zipline has received authorization for beyond visual line of sight operations in Salt Lake City.
