The rate of exposure to synthetic THC increased by 89% overall over a recent 2-year period, with the highest increase seen among children and older adults. A study found that children in the U.S. experienced a 132% increase in exposure to synthetic THC products. The majority of exposures involved delta-8 THC and were due to accidental ingestion. Most cases resulted in mild central nervous system depression, tachycardia, and agitation. The study underscores the importance of educating parents and caregivers about the potential dangers of THC products and the need to store them securely to prevent accidental ingestion by children. Future research will focus on the impact of educational campaigns and interventions to reduce pediatric poisoning from these products.
