The Irish Cancer Society has expressed concern that cancer outcomes in Ireland may have stagnated or worsened due to inadequate Government funding for the National Cancer Strategy. Despite some progress in improving cancer survival rates over the past two decades, current funding falls short of what is needed to fulfill commitments in areas such as screening services and treatments. Delays in expanding bowel screening services and shortages of staff for radiation therapy are also impacting patient care. Efforts are being made to address staffing shortages and explore the use of AI in cancer treatment, but further action is needed to ensure better outcomes for cancer patients in Ireland.
