A study found that severe joint pain is more prevalent in Black, Hispanic, American Indian, and Alaska Native patients with arthritis compared to white patients. Less than 60% of patients receive counseling on physical activity, regardless of race. The research, based on data from the CDC 2019 National Health Interview Survey, also showed disparities in arthritis prevalence and severe joint pain by race/ethnicity, even after adjusting for socioeconomic factors. Health care providers more commonly counsel Black and Hispanic patients on physical activity, suggesting a need for further investigation into the underlying reasons for these disparities and effective strategies to reduce the burden of arthritis and related disparities.
