Researchers led by Northwestern University and the University of Wisconsin-Madison have developed a new approach to treat neurodegenerative diseases. The approach targets antioxidant response and is an important part of cellular protection against oxidative stress. The discovery was published in Advanced Materials and aims to disrupt the protein interaction responsible for oxidative stress in diseases like Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and ALS. By using protein-like polymers (PLPs), it inhibits the interaction, leading to improved cellular protection. The work highlights the importance of interdisciplinary research and opens new doors in combating diseases with oxidative stress.
