Citzens’ Assembly recommends health-led approach to drug use

A report with 36 recommendations from the Citizens’ Assembly on Drugs Use has been submitted to Oireachtas for consideration. The recommendations include a health-led approach to drug use, introducing a comprehensive health-led response to possession of drugs for personal use, greater funding for services at national and local levels, and stronger oversight and accountability at Cabinet level. The report also emphasizes the need for political oversight, prioritizing support for marginalized groups, and enhanced funding. The Assembly spent six months discussing drugs policy and heard from 130 speakers. The Minister of State has assured that the recommendations will be considered with urgency for meaningful changes and improvements in the State’s response.
