Do Top Athletes Live Better and Longer Lives?

The National Academy of Medicine in Paris held a conference on medicine in relation to the Olympic and Paralympic Games, focusing on topics like athletes’ heart health, mental well-being, and healthy aging. Dr. Jean-Philippe Hager moderated the event, discussing the definitions of an athlete, aging, and healthy aging. Studies show that high-level athletes live longer and have fewer cardiovascular or cancer issues, but similar risks of other health problems. Despite potential joint issues from sports, athletes generally report a high quality of life. However, retired athletes may face addiction issues. It is important to educate athletes on self-care and improve medical support to prevent injuries and promote overall well-being.
