Global food environments affect asthma disease burden

A study published in The European Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology found that a higher fat to carbohydrate ratio in the diet was associated with decreased asthma prevalence, with no difference between plant-based and animal-based fat. Carbohydrate supply was strongly associated with increased asthma prevalence rates. The study also highlighted the role of macronutrient supply and socioeconomic status as confounding variables for asthma. The researchers called for further studies into the relationship between macronutrient supply and asthma, as well as the consideration of other factors such as ancestry/ethnicity, physical activity, and dietary patterns in future analyses.
