Researchers find ethnic minorities are underrepresented in studies into multiple long-term health conditions

New research indicates that ethnic minorities are not adequately represented in studies on multiple long-term conditions (MLTCs), despite being more susceptible to these conditions. A systematic review published in the Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine highlighted a lack of reporting on ethnicity and underrepresentation of ethnic minority groups in intervention studies aimed at improving the management of MLTCs. The study found that only a few intervention studies included information on the ethnic makeup of participants, with ethnic minority groups being underrepresented. The researchers emphasized the need for better representation of underserved groups in health research to reduce inequalities and ensure the research benefits those who need it most.
