Hologic AI-powered cancer screening system wins FDA approval

Hologic has received FDA clearance to market its Genius Digital Diagnostics System, which integrates AI with imaging technology to aid in detecting cervical cancer cells. The system, already available in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand, will be launched commercially later this year. By digitizing glass slides for analysis through the AI algorithm, the system claims to reduce false negatives by 28% and enable remote case review. With 13,820 new cases of invasive cervical cancer and 4,360 related deaths predicted in the U.S. in 2024, early detection is critical. Integrating AI into healthcare applications continues to offer promising benefits, as seen in diabetes management and predicting Alzheimer’s biomarkers.
