Money being paid for prescribing Wegovy in pilot studies is “over the top,” say critics

Doctors are concerned about the high amount of money being paid to oversee patients in pilot trials of the weight loss drug Wegovy. Leaked documents show that primary care networks will be reimbursed £1109 for each patient in the pilot if GPs initiate prescribing, and £663 if patients are referred to a specialist weight management service to receive Wegovy. This is significantly higher than the amount paid for traditional weight loss management services, which is around £100 per patient. Public health specialists have questioned the fairness of this discrepancy and emphasized the need for financial support for obesity services.
