WASHINGTON — In this video, John Ward, MD, director of the Coalition for Global Hepatitis Elimination at the CDC Taskforce for Global Health, details the need for hepatitis C prevention and treatment options for injection-drug users.

Ward spoke with Healio at The Liver Meeting and discussed data presented, which demonstrated that people who inject drugs have similar cure and reinfection rates as others who receive treatment for HCV.

“We have big room for improvement, because those young Americans need the same prevention, care and treatment as anyone else,” Ward said. “This is encouraging — that science is telling us that people who inject drugs can also have this health risk eliminated.”
