Should TIA and Minor Stroke Patients Be Kept Out of the Hospital?
Transient ischemic attack (TIA) is a medical emergency where early appropriate management is essential to minimize the risk of stroke.1 Traditionally, we have admitted all patients with TIA or minor stroke to the hospital, presuming that this would offer the best care with the least possible delay. Over the past 2 decades, increasing evidence has emerged demonstrating the feasibility of urgent outpatient TIA management with multiple, alternative models of care proposed, implemented, and evaluated.2
