VitalStim Plus is here!!!

Let’s talk about VitalStim Plus swallowing treatment!

As many of you know, I’ve been a VitalStim certified clinician for 3 years now and have seen some amazing results. VitalStim is a form of neuromuscular electrical stimulation used along with exercises to re-train the swallowing muscles. I have had patients go from eating nothing by mouth back to a regular diet in some cases, and it’s always such an exciting and rewarding journey to be a part of.
I am now SO SO SO excited to announce that SNR is one of the first handful of facilities nationwide (6 to be exact) to receive the brand new VitalStim Plus device, which has many new features that I am so excited to try with my patients!
VitalStim Plus offers sEMG biofeedback (allowing us to see the swallowing activity on a graph), which current research shows yields improved results. The new device also has two extra channels so multiple placements can be targeted simultaneously (e.g., the pharyngeal muscles and the facial muscles if needed). It is also able to be used with a wider range of patients due to its much more customizable features.
If you or a loved one has difficulty swallowing, please feel free to reach out to us to find out more information about whether you may be a VitalStim candidate.
Swallowing is our specialty at SNR, and being privately owned, patient needs are always our number one priority. We are proud to offer one hour sessions (which is recommended for VitalStim treatment and several other specialty programs we offer), whereas many larger organizations only offer 30-45 min sessions due to daily patient quotas and productivity demands (as well as the fact that insurance reimburses us the same amount regardless of length of a session).
My goal when founding SNR was to fill a need in the Tulsa community for specialized adult rehab services that are patient-centered, and I am so happy to be able to do this and to continue to grow and expand the services we offer. We are in-network with Medicare and most all local private insurances. Please call us for more information about VitalStim Plus, any of our other specialty treatment programs, or if we can answer any questions or be of assistance to you in any way. We’re here to help!
Please share this throughout June (which is Dysphagia Awareness Month) and help us spread the word of this new modality that is now available to northeastern Oklahoma!
