Peter A. Adamson, MD, FRCSC, FACS Appointed to the Order of Ontario, the Province’s Highest Honour
Peter A. Adamson, MD, FRCSC, FACS was appointed to the Order of Ontario, among 25 other recipients for 2016. Hailed as an “internationally recognized facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon whose techniques are taught worldwide and who regularly leads teams of plastic surgeons on medical missions through his Face the Future Foundation,” Dr. Adamson is honoured by his appointment to the Order, the province’s highest honour. The Order of Ontario is a civilian order intended to honour the extraordinary achievements of current and former Ontario residents.
“Above all, [Dr. Adamson] has the support and admiration of many people for his caring and selfless dedication to children in need of life-saving, life changing surgery through his humanitarian foundation. He has created an enviable legacy with no personal need for recognition as a leading citizen of our country,” wrote the Face the Future Foundation’s Board of Directors in their nomination letter.
“As Chancellor of the Order of Ontario, I proudly recognize 26 Ontarians who have demonstrated excellence and achievement at the highest level. Having distinguished themselves in the fields of journalism, medicine, human rights advocacy, community building, the arts, and sport, they join a society of merit that has been an inspiration to Ontarians for 30 years. I offer them my warm congratulations on behalf of a grateful province,” said Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario.
Dr. Adamson’s career has spanned 35 years, during which he has been recognized as a “master rhinoplasty surgeon” and has been president of numerous medical boards and societies, including the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery – the only Canadian to ever serve as president. He has mentored 29 surgeons through a fellowship program at the University of Toronto, where he has been the Head of the Division of Facial Plastic Reconstructive Surgery, Department of Otolaryngology-Head Neck Surgery since 2008. He has produced 151 peer reviewed papers, journal and chapter articles, published two books and produced 30 educational videotapes. He has received numerous top awards for clinical research, including Canada’s Goodman Award. Through his foundation, he has led 29 surgical missions during which he and his team have performed 1250 complex operations and donated 25,000 hours of volunteer time.
