My trash is starting to stink. Maggots will appear soon. How best to deal with them?

I have moved the can to my porch… Should I leave the lid off? Should I leave it on? Should I move the can so it is in the sunlight? I have 4 days till the city picks up my trash, I would like to minimize the amount of fly’s I create. Thank you.
