DLN Success Story – Louisiana Army Veteran Finds Assistance with DLN

Dr. Hall and Roy

Roy, 80, is an Army veteran who lives alone in Shreveport, Louisiana. He enjoys reading, watching television, and exercising. Roy was diagnosed with kidney failure and now undergoes dialysis treatment three times per week. In addition, he suffers from diabetes and congestive heart failure.

Sadly, Roy’s dental health was also in poor condition. Many of his teeth were missing and those that remained were loose and decayed. He often found it painful to eat. Roy worked in construction for many years, but his poor health forced him to stop. Now he relies on Social Security and a small military benefit to make ends meet. Unfortunately he could not afford the dental treatment he needed. It seemed he had nowhere to turn for help.

How DDS Helped

Roy learned of the Donated Dental Services (DDS) program and was linked with two generous volunteers:
• Dr. William Hall performed multiple extractions and restorations and donated upper and lower partials.
• Dynasty Dental Lab fabricated the partials at no cost.

Dr. Hall went beyond and did a real good job. I can smile and chew again.
–Roy, DDS Patient

I’ve had the good fortune to serve as a volunteer dentist for the last 28 years, and more recently as a board member, for Dental Lifeline Network Louisiana and its DDS (Donated Dental Services) program. This opportunity has repeatedly “proved” to me the old-time wisdom that if you REALLY want to feel good…do something good for someone else.
–Dr. William Hall, DLN • LA Board Director and DDS Volunteer

Louisiana Donated Dental Services (DDS) is a program of Dental Lifeline Network, a national humanitarian organization and affiliate of the ADA, providing access to comprehensive dental care for people with disabilities or who are elderly or medically fragile and have no other way to get help. Nationally, 15,000 dentists and 3,500 laboratories volunteer for DDS.
