Description of a new type of benign recurrent vertigo of central origin

Lee et al.1 describe a series of patients with episodic vertigo with marked interictal headshaking nystagmus (HSN). These patients had no evidence of peripheral vestibular disease; brain imaging and prolonged follow-up revealed no evidence of a structural brain lesion or a neurodegenerative disease of the brainstem or cerebellum. Additional features included nonmigrainous headache, autonomic symptoms, and a lifelong high susceptibility to motion sickness.
