It’s been a busy month at SNR!
Here’s what’s new with us:
First and foremost, we’re excited to welcome a new speech-language pathologist, Stacy Rathbone, MS, CFY-SLP to our team! Stacy will be completing her clinical fellowship year with me at SNR. Many of you know Stacy, as she was my intern for the past 8 weeks, and I’m so excited that she’s now accepted a full time position with me! Dysphagia Awareness Campaign Throughout May and June
As many of you know, this month is Better Speech and Hearing Month, and next month is Dysphagia Awareness Month. We’re taking this time to launch a dysphagia awareness campaign, which we kicked off last week. Our Thickened Liquid Challenge has become very popular on Facebook, and we want to say thank you to everyone who has participated and submitted a video! We appreciate and love seeing all of your posts. Check out our Facebook page to view our challenge completion video or to tag us in yours! Let’s keep this awareness campaign alive through the summer! Thank you all again for participating.
ALS Awareness Month
In addition to Better Speech and Hearing Month, May is also ALS awareness month. As many of you know, I am the speech pathologist on the MDA team and am serving patients at the MDA Care Center led by neurologist Dr. Eric Edgar. Since becoming an MDA team member, I’ve met so many wonderful families affected by this disease. The sense of community with MDA Tulsa from the support groups and fundraisers to the clinic to the other assistance programs they provide is so incredible, and it’s been a blessing being a part of it. If you know of anyone affected by ALS, please refer them to MDA Tulsa to get plugged in to this amazing community. To learn more about the speech pathology services available to those with ALS, including voice banking, ordering a communication device, and swallowing services, click hereto view our video on SLP services with ALS.
In other news, SNR hosted a free screening event for Better Speech and Hearing Month at The Center for Individuals with Physical Challenges earlier this month. We met lots of amazing people and will definitely be back! Thank you to The Center for having us. If you haven’t checked out their facility, you definitely should! They have so many great programs and resources of all kinds!
If you missed free screening day at The Center, don’t worry! We’re offering free screenings all month long for Better Speech and Hearing Month for swallowing, voice, cognition, and speech-language. Feel free to give us a call or drop by for more information.
As always, thank you to all of our supporters! We appreciate each and every one of you!
