April is Parkinson’s Disease Awareness Month!
Over 60,000 new diagnoses of PD are made each year, and often one of the first symptoms is decreased vocal loudness. At SNR, we offer the Lee Silverman Voice Treatment program, a voice very effective voice program designed specifically for individuals with Parkinson’s disease. More info available here on LSVT LOUD.
Many people with Parkinson’s also develop difficulty swallowing, and sometimes the first sign of this is difficulty with saliva management/ drooling. We offer individualized swallowing treatment programsincluding compensatory strategies, exercises, and/or neuromuscular electrical stimulation treatment depending on the individual’s needs.
Treatment for Parkinson’s disease is very effective and can improve quality of life greatly! The earlier that treatment is received, typically the better the outcomes will be.
Help us raise awareness this month of the treatment options available for those with Parkinson’s disease to improve their quality of life!
